During This Nonprofit workshop, You Will Create:

  • (Session #1) A Donor Appeal Letter Using Asset-Based Language
  • (Session #2) A Donor Thank You Letter Using A Community-Centered Approach
  • (Session #3) A Donor Unrestricted Ask Plan Using Community-Centered Practices              
     

During This Nonprofit Workshop, You Will Learn:

  • How to identify the deficit-framed language in donor communications
  • How to accurately and respectfully talk about people’s identities, situations, and roles in society
  • How to lift up unity, participation, and cooperation over division, extreme individualism, and competition
  • How to incorporate asset-based language into a donor appeal letter
  • How to treat donors as collaborators
  • How to foster a sense of belonging with donors
  • How to promote the understanding that everyone benefits from community investment
  • How to create a donor thank you letter using community-centered practices
  • How to transparently communicate to donors what is required to achieve your mission
  • How to move from “overhead” language to core mission support language
  • How to ensure donor asks are holistic to prioritize unrestricted giving

During This Nonprofit Workshop, You Will Be Encouraged To:

  • Prior to session #1, bring donor appeal writing samples from your nonprofit
  • Prior to session #2, bring a donor thank you letter writing sample from your nonprofit
  • Prior to session #3, bring a written sample of a donor ask from your nonprofit
  • Participation in breakout sessions
  • Participation in writing activities (all sessions)
  • Participation in oral exercises (session #3 only)
  • Participation in all sessions is strongly recommended but not mandatory

  3. Since 2019, Frank has presented on topics such as Asset-Based Language, Community-Centered Fundraising, and Story Arc Grant Writing at several nonprofit conferences, including the Nonprofit Storytelling Conference, AFP Lead, and AFP Arizona Statewide.
